Do you know what to expect?
It may be that a teacher has been recommended to you. Nevertheless, you should still be prepared to ask for further information.
Here's a list of questions you might want to ask:
How long have you been teaching?
What musical styles do you cover - do you specialise in a particular style?
What qualifications do you have?
Do you have a waiting list?
What age range do you teach?
Do you offer an initial consultation lesson so that I can discover whether the lessons are going to be appropriate to my needs?
Where are the lessons held? - your place or do you travel? If travelling to you there may be an additional charge.
How much do you charge and how long do the lessons last?
Are the lessons payable/bookable weekly, monthly, termly etc?
Are there any conditions that I need to be aware of - for example short notice of cancellations?
Do you prepare and enter pupils for exams?
Do you belong or are you affiliated to any professional bodies? (examples might be: the Incorporated Society of Musicians or the Jazz Piano Teachers Association)
