General Security

This website asks for personal information purely for security reasons. If you register your details with us you will not be able to login and place adverts, amend details and make use of certain services unless you've provided a valid email contact address. When you submit your registration details an email is automatically sent to the email address that you provided. You will need to reply to this email by clicking on the security link that it gives you. By doing this it gives assurance to us that you are who you say you are and it deters or stops people from placing inappropriate messages on the site. If you don't click on the link provided in the email confirmation to you, your registration details will never become live and you won't be able to take full advantage of the website.

I tried to register but I'm being told that cookies aren't enabled. What's a cookie ... ?

Some Web sites store information in a small text file on your computer. This file is called a cookie. There are several types of cookies, and you can choose whether to allow some, none, or all of them to be saved on your computer. If you don't allow cookies at all, you may not be able to view some Web sites or take advantage of customization features (such as online banking, or perform actions on sites which you would like to explore that are tailored to you personally and which allow you to place adverts etc - like musicteach)!

Cookies can also store personally identifiable information such as your name or e-mail address. However, a Web site only has access to the personally identifiable information that you provide. For example, a Web site can't determine your e-mail name unless you provide it. Also, a Web site cannot gain access to other information on your computer.

Once a cookie is saved on your computer, only the Web site that created the cookie can read it.

I tried to register but when I pressed the submit button, it wouldn't accept my details. What's wrong ... ?

Some (but not all) of the fields on the registration form require input from you. These mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk (*).

If you do not complete all these fields, registration will not be permitted. When you press the submit button at the end of the process, if you have not been successful, scroll back up the page. Any area where you may have omitted detail will be highlighted in pink. Supply the information required and resubmit.

How do I enable cookies... ?

Some Web sites require cookies; therefore, if you select a setting that does not allow cookies to be saved on your computer, you might not be able to view certain Web sites. To change those settings (if you need to), and to allow cookies, do the following:

  1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Select the Internet zone
  4. Move the slider up for a higher level of security or down for a lower level of security. It is suggested that you set it to Low (second from bottom option on the slider).
  5. Click on apply

It's not a good idea generally to set it lower than the Low setting - i.e. to Accept/allow all cookies

What's an invalid session ...?

A session is the period of time a user spends on a website or logged into an application on a website. A user session begins when the user accesses an application and ends when the user quits the application. If, for example, you are trying to register your details, get to the end of the process and receive an error message of Invalid Session, it will usually mean that there have been periods of inactivity during your registration and the website has decided to end your session. The session time for musicteach has been set to 20 minutes.

How do I amend/update my details ... ?

If you've already registered and want to change your details i.e. you've changed address, email address, or want to add/delete details, do the following:

Click on the login tab near the top right hand corner of the home page.

Enter your user name and password. You'll be directed to a page that gives you options to submit details for adverts etc. At the bottom of this page is a link which says: - "update registration details". Click on this link and it will take you to the registration form you originally filled out. It will contain all the detail you previously entered. Just alter the section(s) that you wish and click on the button at the bottom of the page to submit your details. That's all there is to it!

If you're adding a website address to your details and you want users to be able to access your site by clicking on its address, you must currently start the address with http://

Example; if your website is called "myownpersonalsite.co.uk", you will need to type:

http://www.myownpersonalsite.co.uk

This will ensure that the link is active.
